What causes blue screens?
- Failing RAM. One of the most common culprits. Memory modules can develop bad cells over time.
- Failing storage drive. A dying SSD or hard drive often shows up as random BSODs before failing completely.
- Overheating. Dust-clogged fans, dried thermal paste, or a failing CPU cooler can cause random crashes.
- Bad drivers. Outdated or corrupted graphics, network, or chipset drivers cause specific kinds of BSODs.
- Windows corruption. System files damaged by a power outage, virus, or interrupted update.
- Failing power supply. A flaky PSU can cause random shutdowns and BSODs that look unrelated.
- Hardware conflicts. New peripheral, GPU, or RAM that's not playing well with your system.
Why "just reinstalling Windows" usually doesn't fix it
People often reinstall Windows hoping the crashes go away. They sometimes do β temporarily β but if the underlying problem is hardware, the crashes come back. We diagnose the root cause first so you don't waste time and money on a non-fix.
How we diagnose blue screens
- Read the error codes. The cryptic text on the BSOD actually tells us a lot if we know what to look for. Memory errors look different from driver errors, which look different from hardware failures.
- Run hardware diagnostics. RAM testing, drive testing, temperature monitoring, power supply testing β we do real diagnostic work, not guess-and-replace.
- Check the dump files. Windows saves crash details. We analyze them to identify the failing component.
- Test under load. Some problems only show up when the computer is working hard. We stress-test to reproduce the issue safely.
If your computer is crashing repeatedly: back up anything important right now if you can, and bring it in. Random crashes often precede full hardware failure β a stitch in time saves your data.
How long does it take?
Diagnosis is usually same-day. Repair time depends on what we find β bad RAM is a quick swap, a failing drive needs replacement and Windows reinstallation, and complex driver issues sometimes need a full system tune-up. We'll always give you a real timeline.
